Triton Spring VII @ UC San Diego (20 May 2017)
Quiz Bowl at UCSD is pleased to announce its seventh annual Triton Spring Tournament at UC San Diego on Saturday, 20 May 2017. As one of the longest continuously-running tournaments in Southern California, we aspire to make Triton Spring a satisfying season-ending tournament for all teams.
DATE / TIME: The tournament will be held on Saturday, 20 May 2017. Check-in will begin at 8:00 AM, and matches will begin promptly at 9:00 AM. Teams will be required to attend a mandatory informational meeting at 8:45 AM.
LOCATION: The tournament will be held on the campus of UC San Diego (9500 Gilman Dr, La Jolla, CA 92093), in either the Humanities and Social Sciences (H&SS) building or Center Hall. More information will be provided closer to the tournament date.
TOURNAMENT DETAILS: Our tournament will divide the field into two divisions, as follows:
– An upper division using Yale University’s annual Bulldog High School Academic Tournament (BHSAT) question set (limit 12 teams)
– A lower division using a High School Academic Pyramidal Questions (HSAPQ) question set (limit 6 teams)
Due to the small field size, each school will be limited to one (1) team across both divisions (i.e. a single team in either division but not both). Additional teams will be waitlisted until 6 May 2017. At the tournament director’s sole discretion, particularly talented individuals may have their eligibility in the lower division restricted on the basis of factors including but not limited to skill level and previous tournament performances.
Our registration fee is as follows:
Base fee: $80
-$40 if school has played less than three (3) tournaments since 20 May 2015
-$10 per experienced moderator (at tournament director (TD) discretion)
-$5 per working buzzer system (at TD discretion; must accommodate at least eight players)
-$5 per 50 miles travelled one way, according to Google Maps
There is a minimum fee of $30 for all schools.
Teams must register for the tournament by emailing email@example.com with (a) the school name; (b) the division in which a team is being registered; (c) the number of buzzer systems, if any; (d) the number of staffers, if any; and (e) a contact name and phone number. Due to the small field size, we anticipate the tournament field to fill rapidly.
